about

all arrangements of objects kept functioning by rubber bands, bulldog clips, and blutak. after each recording, the entire set up was dismantled. ephemeral and transitory, like an audio sand mandala.

NOTE 1: the piece "Smoke in the Rain" was recorded in the studio while I went out for a smoke in the rain, leaving the door open. All thunder and rain sounds are actual thunder and rain recorded through the open studio door.

NOTE 2: several of these pieces incorporate leaning my 4-stringed monotonal acoustic guitar on the vinyl while it spins, while "The Balladeer's Gamble" incorporates the aforementioned guitar propped up nearby, while spinning objects occasionally strike the strings in some kind of chaotic flux. "The Leaning Wood" is the very first time I leaned my guitar on a spinning record, and is perhaps the best recording of this kind of approach. The picture used for the album artwork is a photo from the session in which "The Leaning Wood" was recorded - in case you're wondering, the blue penguin toy is filled with quiet bells.
